A native of Tokyo, Japan, Atsushi completed his Bachelor’s degree at Yale University and received his Ph.D. from Harvard University. During his graduate studies, he worked on characterizing bacterial cell wall synthesis under the supervision of Dr. Suzanne Walker. Following his doctoral work, Atsushi returned to Japan to study pneumococcal antimicrobial resistance in Dr. Kunihiko Nishino’s lab at SANKEN, The University of Osaka. In 2025, he joined the faculty at the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Education (CiDER), The University of Osaka, as an Associate Professor.
