Biological processes at the bacterial membrane interface

Bacterial cells are constantly exposed to the external environment, making the cell surface a critical interface for adaptation and survival. Biological processes at this interface include substrate import and export mediated by membrane transporters and cell surface biogenesis. Using the model Gram-positive pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae, our lab seeks to uncover the molecular mechanisms that drive these processes and define how they contribute to bacterial physiology and environmental adaptation.

Molecular basis of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria

Bacterial infections caused by drug-resistant pathogens are a major global health threat. Our lab investigates the genetic and cellular determinants of antimicrobial susceptibility and resistance. By integrating complementary approaches, including bacterial genetics, biochemistry, and structural biology, we aim to uncover how these determinants function at the molecular level and reveal vulnerabilities that may inform new antimicrobial strategies.
